Colorblindness is a minor disability shared by 8% of men and 0.05% of women. Although there’s a tiny percentage of people born with fully monochromatic vision, most colorblind people just find it difficult to distinguish between similar shades. The most common form of colorblindness makes it difficult to see the difference between red and green.

Difficulties of the Color Impaired

We asked some of our colorblind users, what’s the most difficult thing they have to face online each day. And as it turned out, it’s the lack of contrast. So, however tasteful those lovely pastels on your web page are, they may not serve as the best choice for clear communication.

Also, make sure that the text on your web page is bigger or has high contrast to make sure it’s readable for everyone.

“A lack of contrast. It’s sometimes very difficult for me to differentiate between colors that are very similar, and if red+green are involved, everything is thrown out the window!” — Teamweek user

What Else to Consider?

Difficulties distinguishing different shades of color can make surfing the web and using color coding in tools like Teamweek hard.

“Being color blind, I can’t tell what most of the colors are, especially on the lighter shades. Implementing a color blind option would be super helpful!” — Teamweek user

Also, mixing vibrant colors like blues, purples and pinks may cause physical discomfort in some colorblind people. Also, using similar shades anywhere where you would like to highlight any information can make it hard for them to get the overview you wanted people to have.

Go to My Settings → Preferences to turn on the Color Impaired mode!

So, after some research, and a lot of help from our users to select the right patterns, tones and text sizes, we’re happy to announce that there is a vision impaired version of Teamweek which you can switch on in My Preferences. You can easily add contrast, add patterns to tasks, make current day and user avatars more visible.
